Meeting on M-R Vaccination campaign held


Dimapur, September 18: Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS convened a meeting today in connection with Measles- Rubella Vaccination Campaign MRVC scheduled to start from October 3 to 7.
In the meeting, Sushil Kumar asked the administrative officers to coordinate with the concerned Councils and GBs by convening meetings so that the message of Measles – Rubella campaign reaches out to the masses.
The DC also directed ADC Niuland and SDO (C) Dhansiripar to find out ways and means to reach out to the people about the campaign.
Further, he expressed gratitude to the Lions Club Dimapur for coming forward to help in the campaign by contributing hoardings and pamphlets. He asked the DMC to identify hoarding spaces in five locations and put up the same.
The DC also said that stickers relating to MR would be pasted on taxis and autorickshaws to create awareness about the campaign.
‘Polio has been eliminated from the country, and likewise, the Government wants to eliminate Measles-Rubella for the betterment of the society,’ he maintained.
Dr. Ushma Dharod from WHO, Rapid Response Team, also speaking in the meeting said that the main objective of the campaign is to eliminate Measles and control Rubella by 2020. The campaign has already been covered in 17 states and going on in six states, she informed.
She appealed to all stakeholders and church leaders to announce the importance of MR vaccine in their areas in order to protect children in the age group of 9 Months to 15 Years from Measles and Rubella.
CMO, Dimapur, who was also present in the meeting, felt that misconceptions has to be removed from the minds of the people, so that future children lives a good life. He explained that vaccines are administered to people only after proper research and scientifically proven to be safe. He also suggested that the importance of MR vaccines needs to be highlighted in schools during parents teachers meet to clear the minds of the parents about any misconceptions, so that children can be vaccinated.
Administrative officers, officials from medical department, Lions Club Dimapur, DMC Dimapur, church representatives and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
