Dimapur, July 2: The Mech Kachari Public Organisation, Nagaland (MKPON) has expressed disappointment at the exclusion of Kachari tribe in an advertisement issued by the Department of Art & Culture for a photography competition on the theme ‘Language of Textiles’, to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence.
In a press release issued on Friday, the organisation stated that Kacharis also participate every year in Hornbill Festival and the Department of Art & Culture is well aware of it.
“The Kacharis have always been mentioned among the 16 tribes of Nagaland. The existence of the Kachari ruins in Dimapur is enough to prove that Kacharis are among one of the recognised tribes of Nagaland with distinct tradition and culture since time immemorial,” it stated, and asked the Department not to sideline the community.
