Dimapur, February 23: Delegates of Marwari Samaj, Dimapur led by its President Om Prakash Sethi felicitated the only Padma Bhushan from Nagaland Dr. S C Jamir on February 21 at his Chumukedima residence.
Appreciating Marwari Samaj for being the first community to felicitate him after having been conferred Padma Bhushan by the Government of India recently, Dr. Jamir reminisced the days when the pioneers like Harisankar Singhania, Late Kishan Lal Sethi, Late Mangilal Jain, Late Panna Lal Sethi, Late Sohan Lal Sethi etc. had immense contribution in building Dimapur as a thriving township. He also appreciated Jain Community for the Hospital, Girls College, School built for the welfare of the public in general. Sharing about his views on minority welfare, Dr. Jamir reminded that he always maintained a seat in the legislature for the minorities during his rule.
Dr Jamir opined that the Act East Policy of GoI would open the floodgates for the development in Nagaland. Influx of foreigners would be very high at that time which needs to be monitored for better progress & protection of the indigenous inhabitants, he said.
Appreciating the liberal views of Dr. Jamir, Sethi expressed his gratitude on Marwari communities’ behalf & wished him a long life & the best of the place in the Indian history.
