Avengers: Endgame is on its way to write history with a never-seen-before performance for a Hollywood film in India. The 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has recorded the highest weekend box office collections at Rs 186.53 cr at the domestic box office.
According to Deadline, the film has collected a whopping $ 26.7 million gross in India, the best for a Hollywood film at the domestic box office. Earlier, Avengers: Infinity War had collected Rs 120.90 crore gross in its first three days.
The film had set a new record by opening at a massive Rs 53 crore at the domestic box office. It was the second biggest opening in Indian box office history, following Baahubali: The Conclusion’s Rs 121 crore opening. The film surpassed the opening box office figures of the highest Bollywood grosser Thugs of Hindostan, which opened to Rs 52.25 crore in 2018.
The film boasts of a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin. The film released on 2845 screens in India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
A day before, trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted, “#AvengersEndgame shatters the myth that a massive screen count is the key to collect big numbers on Day 1/weekend… #AvengersEndgame has released in 2845 screens, but its occupancy is much, much higher than *Hindi* biggies that open in 4000+ screens.”
The film has collected a stunning $350 million in North America and $1.2 billion worldwide, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations estimated Sunday.
Avengers looks likely to remain strong, having drawn a sky-high 96% rating from critics on the Rotten Tomatoes website. With a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin, it took in a jaw-dropping $329 million in China alone, Variety reported.
