Many MLAs threatening ULB candidates & public with “a biased mindset” shocking: K Therie

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, JUNE 21: Expressing shock at many MLAs threatening ULB candidates and the public with “a biased mindset” to deprive development and facilities, former Nagaland Finance Minister, K Therie has appealed to the State Election Commission to caution “desperate ULB election campaigners”.
“What more is there to deprive when people do not have basic amenities such as water, electricity, roads, drains, schools and hospitals? They do not need them because they buy water, generators, SUVs, send their children to other States and abroad and travel to the nation’s best hospitals or even abroad for treatment, at the expense of the public. They do not want voters to elect capable leaders to work for the people”, he said in a press release.
Claiming that ULB election campaigns are turning ugly, he said misuse of power and intimidation should be stopped. “Honourable Members need to be told of their limits and duties”, he said.
According to Therie, it is prudent for elected members, especially ruling members, to define their responsibilities to self and act accordingly. “The very meaning of legislator signifies making laws for people’s welfare. The Government is for the welfare of the people. It is wrong to be owned by a political party”, he stated.
Stating that the Constitution and laws apply to all citizens, he reminded that tax is levied upon all and so the benefits of various schemes by the Government are for all.
“What is provided by the Constitution cannot be deprived to any bona fide citizen. Such insensible leaders attract legal action, the public should reject them in future in the interest of peace, justice, and equality”, he said while appealing to the voters to do what is morally right for the people.
