Manipur mulls naming dists after fruits

IMPHAL, JANUARY 27: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday said that his Government is planning to name the districts of the State after fruits special to them.
Biren Singh made this announcement while opening the consultative meeting on food processing-cum-technology exhibition under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Connect North East, at the CSIR – North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Branch Laboratory, Lamphelpat, in Imphal West district.
Acknowledging the unique identity of every district in the State, the Chief Minister said that the Government is considering to name the districts after fruits in a bid to grant recognition to them for producing their own varieties like oranges in Tamenglong district, ‘kachai’ lemons in Ukhrul district, bananas in Noney district and ginger in Pherzwal district.
