Manika Batra, Mouma Das win women’s doubles TT silver

India’s Manika Batra and M Das show their silver medals at the medal ceremony of Table Tennis women’s doubles event at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast.

Gold Coast, April 13: A third medal in table tennis has come from India’s women’s doubles pair of Manika Batra and Mouma Das, who on Friday finished second best to Singapore’s Tainwei Feng and Mengyu Yu.
The pair had assured India a further table tennis medal when they reached the finals with a commanding 3-0 win over Malaysia’s Ying Ho and Karen Lyne. In the finals, the Singapore duo extracted a degree of revenge for the upset defeat that India’s women’s team handed the four-time CWG gold medalists on Sunday, winning 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-5).
This is India’s third TT medal at the Gold Coast Games, following the landmark first gold last week and the gold which the men’s team delivered with a 3-0 win over Nigeria on Monday.
Batra – a Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) winner this year, in the People’s Choice category – will on Saturday contest the women’s singles quarter-final versus Feng.
Earlier in the women’s doubles bronze medal match, India’s Sutirtha Mukherjee and Pooja Sahasrabudhe lost 1-3 against Malaysia’s Ying and Lyne, who were beaten in the semis by Manika and Mouma. (Agencies)
