LTM appeals to DC Mokokchung

Dimapur, April 12: The Langpangkong Tzukong Mungdang (LTM) has appealed to the DC Mokokchung to immediately set up a permanent police check gate at Kangtsung (Nagaland) and Atkel (Assam) border invoking the Epedimic Act 1897.
In a letter to the DC Mokokchung, the LTM while appreciating the district administration and police for effectively monitoring of Watiyongpang Nagaland-Assam border check gate, said the porous border that Langpangkong shares with Assam is about 10 km with Wameken Yimsen, Kangtsung Yimsen, Anaki Yimsen and Anaki (C) villages on the stretch, which is just miles away from Assam.
“As such, we would like to strongly urge the district administration to give equal importance to those areas and immediately establish a permanent police check gate,” it said.
The LTM also demanded increase in police force to patrol the border areas round the clock. It said the ADC Tuli has promulgated Section 144 CrPC within 2 km in the border area but due to shortage of police force on duty, the vast area cannot be covered. “Hence peddlers and trespassers take advantage of the situation as there is enough bypass roads in the belt which create a grave danger,” it said.
Stating that almost 90% of the population in Langpangkong area is daily bread earners, it lamented that the villagers are yet to receive any grant-in-aid from any sources. It demanded immediate monetary and essential commodities aid be delivered to the villagers in the area.
The LTM informed that while the Langpangkong range has 2 CHCV, 2 PHC and numbers of sub centres, the facilities and equipments that are available in these places are not satisfactory to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. It sought installation of necessary equipments and machineries like ventilators, oxygen, medicine, PPE kit, first aid, etc. It also demanded that doctors and nurses, medical staff in CHS, PHC and sub centres, police and volunteers in check gates be equipped with personal protection kit and mask urgently.
The LTM also demanded construction of a sanitization station immediately in the Watiyongpang check gate to sanitize the driver, handyman and goods laden vehicles entering the district. It also asserted the imperative need to have stock of essential commodities.
The LTM demanded the DC Mokokchung to take note of the grievances and take necessary action on war footing. (Page News Service)
