Lockdown: State JDU raises plight of daily Naga wage-workers

Dimapur, March 27: While appreciating the health workers of Nagaland who are constantly working strenuously against the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic, the JDU Nagaland today observed that Nagaland Government, as a whole, appears to be one of the most unprepared states in the country against the pandemic.
In a press release, the State JDU stated that by February 2020, all farsighted nations and states began embarking on preventive measures especially on procurements of protective equipments and medical requirements, whereas even at this most crucial juncture when the whole country is under lockdown, there seems to be acute shortage of basic gears such as hand sanitizers and medical masks in Nagaland.
The JDU also raised concern on the plight of the Naga daily wage-workers who are the most affected as a result of the state-wide lockdown. It said while several states have already announced free ration for three months especially for the BPL, financial package through direct bank transfer to daily wage-earners and other remedial measures such as availability of free masks and sanitizers and provisions for free food by organizing shelter homes for the downtrodden, “the Nagaland Government is yet to take a call on these critical and humanitarian issues.” The JDU appealed to the PDA Government to urgently come out with necessary measures to address this philanthropic concern.
Appreciating the prompt action of the various ward councils and village authorities who are responding swiftly to the challenges of the COVID-19, it said such alertness must continue till normalcy is attained.
The JDU further appealed to all concerned citizens to cooperate with the genuine advisories towards battling this global pandemic and be vigilant against rumour-mongers least they became victims. (Page News Service)
