Lhisemia Khel celebrates Sekrenyi in Kohima

Kohima, March 4: The Lhisemia Khel of Kohima village today celebrated Sekrenyi, a premier festival of the Angami Nagas with much pomp and gaiety at TM School Ground, Kohima.
Jointly managed by Lhisemia Youth Organisation and Lhisemia Students’ Union, the celebration witnessed folk songs from LSU night tuition students, Khrierei Krotho and Seyiekruonuo Yhome; indigenous games, tug of war and Sekrenyi feast.
Addressing the celebrants, Lhisemia Council chairman Ayie Yhome stressed on the need to preserve and protect the vibrant culture and traditions of the Nagas.
“It is important to preserve our culture, tradition, mother tongue, customs, and traditional dresses to uphold our identity, lest our identity is lost.
It is imperative to know other cultures and languages in the fast-changing world but we should not forget our culture,” he said.
He also told the gathering to value the good social norms of the forefathers to secure a dignified life.
Meanwhile, maintaining that the election to State Assembly is over and the representative elected, as the council chairman, Yhome called upon the citizens to forgive each other if anything unwanted happened during the process but come together to strengthen the peaceful environment.
Convenor of L Khel Students’ Union 75th Anniversary organising committee Dziivinguzo Mepfhiio chaired the celebration programme while Lhisemia Youth Organization president Mhasimhalie Yhome delivered the welcome address and L. Khel Head GB Krutuolie Yhome pronounced festival blessings. Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU) president Dziesekhrietuo Khruomo tendered the vote of thanks.
