LH serves ultimatum to NHIDCL

Dimapur, June 6: The Lotha Hoho (LH) has served an ultimatum to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to intervene into the Wokha-Merapani highway rehabilitation and upgradation works latest by June 15, so as to ensure adherence to specifications, failing which Lotha organisations will be compelled to take their own course of action.
In a press release, the LH informed that as a follow up to the ultimatum served earlier to the contractor, M/s CS Infraconstruction Limited, the LH along with Lotha Students’ Union, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Anti Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Wokha unit, All Commercial Vehicles’ Association, WD Chamber of Commerce & Industries, WD GBs Association, WD Village Council Chairmen Association, Team Metamorphosis, Lotha Youth Hoho, WD Entrepreneurs’ Association, carried out a joint site inspection cum verification of the upgradation works of the highway on May 31and found that the contractor is not executing the project work as per specifications.
“No widening is done; but instead the contractor is burying the Hume pipes as culverts across the existing runway and is collecting materials for surfacing,” it stated.
LH said the DPR clearly states that “the upgradation and augmentation shall include widening and strengthening of the Project Highway … the carriage way shall be of two lane (7 meters wide) in plain terrain and 5.5.meters in hilly terrain…”
LH said the Lotha beneficiary organisations have patiently and eagerly waited for more than a month for the contractor to honour the NHIDCL directions to adhere to the technical specifications, but lamented that the contractor does not seem to pay any heed to the direction; and instead continue to execute the works in defiance of the technical requirements.
LH further highlighted that the road project being funded by the NEC, it had been trying its best to communicate with the NEC office Shillong on the matter but to no avail. It said the hoho had dispatched several written letters to the NEC, Nongrimbah, Shillong by speed post; but so far there has been no response. “It is utterly ridiculous for a highly responsible entity such as the NEC to be so unreliable and non responsive,” it said while urging the Nagaland Government to take up the matter with the North Eastern Council immediately.
