LH disappointed with progress of Wka-Merapani road work

Dimapur, March 4: The Lotha Hoho has expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of work at the ongoing rehabilitation cum up-gradation works of Wokha-Merapani highway and requested the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, New Delhi not to pay any running bill to the contractor without physical verification to ascertain the actual work achievement at site.
The LH also requested the MoRTH to transfer the work to the charge of NHIDCL Nagaland office at Dimapur, and authorize the Nagaland State PWD (R&B) to supervise the work for better coordination.
In a press release, the LH said it fear that the road works would end in failure, alleging that the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is not sincere in the implementation of the work. It also alleged that the contractor is not following the specifications of the DPR.
LH pointed out that the head office of the NHIDCL (GM), in charge of the work, is at Tezpur, Assam, and that of DGM at Sivasagar, Assam, with no co ordination office, in Nagaland, and hence not readily accessible from either side. It said in spite of repeated requests for consultative/coordination meeting, the NHIDCL had refused to meet the beneficiary community “Monitoring cum Vigilance committee”.
“The NHIDCL personnel, if any, is not available at work site and the road work is therefore not supervised by any technical personnel,” it added. (Page News Service)
