Legal rights awareness campaign held at Central Jail Dimapur

Dimapur, October 24: A one-day legal rights awareness campaign was conducted by High Court Legal services Committee (HCLSC) Kohima Bench for the inmates at Central jail Dimapur on Saturday.


A press release informed that about 160 inmates attended the programme
Neiko Akami , Secretary of HCLSC & Registrar, Kohima Bench, encouraged the inmates to reform themselves while in prison and spoke about the right to appeal in higher court.
He also stated that the High Court Legal Services has presently taken up 14 cases for appeal in the High Court and 1 case in the Supreme Court.
Seyielenou Mezii, Chief Judicial Magistrate & Secretary of DLSA, spoke on powers to commute the sentences under section 432/433/433A CrPC.
She further emphasised on reformatory justice delivery system being the main purpose for an inmate so that they become responsible citizens when they are release from prison.
Senior Advocate at Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench, CT Jamir spoke on appeal for parole and temporary release from prison as per the laid down rules and procedures. (Page News Service)
