Legal awareness programme held at Pungro

Dimapur, August 8: Kiphire District Legal Services Authority organised a ‘revamp of legal aid clinic-cum-legal awareness’ programme on August 7 at Pungro town.


A press release on Sunday informed that N Longshitung Ezung, in his keynote address, said the purpose of legal service is to make justice accessible to all by playing a very decisive role and acting as a bridge between the needy, poor and the courts.
Legal services authorities provide free and competent legal services to all the weaker sections of the society in the country. He also highlighted some of the National Legal Services Authority schemes.
Abhinav Shivam, ADC of Pungro, encouraged the people to come forward and get the benefits of legal rights/services through proper channel. He also thanked the District Legal Services Authority for conducting the programme in the remote areas.
Micheal Aye, APP of Kiphire, spoke on ‘Rights of arrested person.’ He said that an arrest is an act of taking a person into custody as he/she may be suspected of a crime or an offence. It is done because a person is apprehended for doing something wrong. He also mentioned some of sections like Section 51(1) CrPC (search of arrested person), examination of arrested person by medical practitioner at the request to the arrest person (Section 54), person arrested to be informed of ground of arrest and of right of bail. Whenever the search of a female person is necessary, the search should be made by another female with strict regard to decency and modesty [Section 51(2).
‘Nagaland Village and Tribal Council Act’ was highlighted by Bendangwati Sangtam, Retainer Lawyer, DLSA Kiphire.


On the same day, the Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated by N Lungshithung Ezung in the presence of Abhinav Shivam, ADC Pungro, at ADC office compound. (Page News Service)
