Dimapur, January 24: A lecture on Dr Talimeren Ao in commemoration of 100th year of his birth centenary was held on January 23 at Council Hall, Mon.
CMO Mon, Dr. Kechongol Sophie spoke on health in the programme. He stated that risk factors of today are the diseases of tomorrow and emphasised on risk factors of smoking & tobacco chewing, abuse of alcohol, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.
Dr Sophie focused on four important diseases – Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetics, Cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and their causes and effects. He stated that alcohol not only causes cirrhosis but even before reaching cancer, many people die due to internal bleeding due to portal hypertension. People who are physically inactive have twice the risk of developing heart disease and stroke, he added.
DSO Mon, Anguvito Sumi highlighted on the life history of Dr T Ao. The Department of information & Public relations screened a documentary on Dr T Ao on the occasion.
The programme was organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports in collaborations with Department of Information & Public Relations and Heath & Family Welfare. (Page News Service)
