KFL matches suspended till Aug 21
Kohima, August 19: Kohima Town Club defeated Kohima Press Club in the first Late Xavier Rutsa Memorial Football Exhibition Match at Local ground here yesterday.
In the thrilling encounter, KPC held the match till the first half against KTC. Even KTC created enough chances but KPC custodian Zhovezo Resü denied all the shots that were fired into the target to end the first half in a goalless 0 – 0 draw.
However, most of the players being well-experienced with the game of football, KTC dominated in the second half and scored two goals through Vesupra Kezo and took the lead. In reply KPC also scored their first goal through Ketouvilie Kire proving that media persons can play football too. At the end of the second half, the shoreline stood 2 – 1 in favour of KTC.
During the memorial match, both the teams wore black ribbons on their wrists to signify the sadness over the loss of a comrade. Lady players from both the teams were also introduced during the match.
KPC General Secretary Alice Yoshü handed over the historic trophy to KTC captain Viketoulie Pienyü and Angulie Dul of KTC was adjudged Best Player of the Match while the Best Goalkeeper of the Match went to Zhovezo Resü of KPC.
Family members of Late Xavier, fans and representatives from various other organizations and clubs and well-wishers witnessed the exciting match.
During the programme, KTC general secretary Vikholie and KPC general secretary paid tribute to the departed soul while two-minute silence was also observed before the commencement of the match.
Meanwhile, the organizers of Kohima Football League has informed that the ongoing league would be suspended for two days (August 20 and 21) due to unavoidable circumstance. The league will be resumed back on 22nd August. The fixtures for the remaining matches will be updated soon. (Page News Service)
