L Khel and Mao celebrates 90 years of friendship treaty


Kohima, April 28: The 90th Friendship Treaty anniversary between Lhisemia Khel of Kohima village and seven villages of Sopfüma, known as Mao of Manipur state was observed today at was observed at Chielatsiepfhe L. Khel, Kohima village.
On behalf of the Mao villages, Kaisü Adani Choro said their forefathers entered into the treaty for better relationship which has to be upheld by the young generations and maintain its sanctity.
He reminded the gathering that the treaty is the bridge to build good relationship between the two different parties.
Pheluopfhelie Kesiezie on behalf of L Khel acknowledged that even though their forefathers lived at a time when they worshipped idols, they understood the value of establishing a friendship bond and brotherhood to foster love, respect, trust and better understanding.
He reminded that we have 90 years of friendship and would celebrate centenary soon, and urged to continue upholding this treaty with conviction and strengthen our friendship in years to come. He also shared the brief background of friendship treaty between L. Khel (Kohima village) and four villages from Mao tribe.
On the occasion, the two community exchanged documents represented by Tseivilie Miachieo convenor and A. Daili co-convenor respectively while also honouring all the persons above 90 years of age of the two communities with special gifts.
Convenor Core Committee Tseivilie Miachieo chaired the programme which started with invocation prayer by Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church Rev. Keviyiekielie Linyü. Chairman Lhisemia Council Kekhriesetuo Kelio delivered the welcome address while folk songs were presented by Lhisemia group and Ebvemei. A. Ashohrü tendered the vote of thanks while parish priest Christ King church Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Peter Salew said benedictory prayer.
