Dimapur, September 17: Poshan Maah or Nutrition month under Poshan Abhiyan or National Nutrition Mission, a Government of India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers was observed on September 17 at the office of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kohima. The aim behind the celebration of Poshan Maah is to encourage and ensure health and nutrition for everyone.
During the technical session, Khekali Sema, ACTO (Horticulture) spoke on “Awareness on nutritional garden’ while Keviyieno Zhasa, Technical Officer (Home Science) deliberated on “Awareness on Nutri-Thali”. A total of 56 participants attended the programme out of which 30 were anganwadi workers and 26 were farm women representing eight villages under Tseminyu sub division. The programme culminated with the distribution of seeds/planting materials.
The programme was chaired by Mrs. Imtisenla ACTO (Agronomy), key note address was delivered by Dr Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Kohima and vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr Temjennungsang ACTO (Animal Science).
Wokha: Under the initiative of ICAR-KVK and Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited, a programme on Poshan Abhiyaan and Kisan Gosthi was held at VDB Hall, Wokha on September 17. It was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha on the theme “Balance Diet, Healthy Life.
Medical Officer (Ayush) Dr. Zechano Ezong, stressing on the theme stated that good nutrition is one of the key components to a healthy life, a balanced diet gives body the nutrients it needs to function and for the growth and development of the body. She emphasized on the intake of daily calories that contains vitamins and minerals such as fruits, vegetables whole grains dairy to live a healthy and happy life. She also added that a balanced diet is an important step towards a happy and healthy life style, as a healthy diet can protect the human body against certain types of diseases.
District Project Assistant, Poshan Abhiyaan, Wokha, Annie Lotha, while highlighting on Poshan Abhiyaan, said the programme started in the year 2018 but in Nagaland it was implemented only last year. She informed that so far under Poshan Maah 2020, Wokha district has reached 170 activities under 5 block levels and the participants have crossed the mark of 7 thousands and ranks above average among the other districts of Nagaland.
Emphasizing on the importance of kitchen garden, she said it is an essential need now because the vegetables and fruits we buy from bazaars are all for mass production and it has harmful chemicals and fertilizers which is harmful for our body. This pandemic has taught us the importance to rely more on our organic products than to rely on the markets, she added.
Later in the technical session, TO (Food Technology), Thunbgchano S Ezung dwelled on the topic Nutritional garden, Women Welfare Officer, Dr.Wonchano Enny spoke on Nutri-Thali and ACTO (Horticulture) highlighted on Bio fortified varieties.
40 Anganwadi Workers and 60 farming women’s took part in the programme, varieties of nutritional garden kit/ seedling were distributed to all the participants.
Longleng: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng along with allied departments celebrated Poshan Maah under Poshan Abhiyaan on Balance Diet & Healthy Life on September 17b at EBRC hall Longleng with Trongdiba Tongpi SDO (C) Longleng as special guest and Dr. Lily Ngullie ACTO (A/Sc.) KVK Longleng as chairperson.
The special guest acknowledged the departments and all Anganwadi workers for rendering their service for the betterment of the society. He emphasized on making use of the funds provided by the Government with honesty and encouraged them to be sincere with the trainings provided by the Department. He also handed over the seeds to the beneficiary.
Longlang CDPO, Nodal officers Longleng said that Poshan Maah is celebrated every year under Poshn Abhiyaan. He spoke on identifying (MAM & FAM), and the importance of kitchen gardening and appealed to all citizens on starting up kitchen gardens in all Anganwadi centers.
Lemjan Phom DFS NSRLM gave a presentation on nutrition garden and in the technical session, A. Namei, KVK briefed on cultivation practices of different vegetable crops. Vote of thanks was delivered by Watilong Longkumer.
Jalukie: As per the action plan for the celebration of Rastriya Poshan Maah, Department of Social Welfare Jalukie block level carried out cleanliness drives on September 16 at Jalukie Town. Altogether 35 persons from Childline officials, AWW & CDPO staffs Jalukie actively participated in the program. The participants involved in cleaning the town Area, Nursing home and CDPO office premises.
Namhuheing, CDPO Jalukie briefed on good habits of personal cleanliness and skills development that save life. He said that many disease like diarrhea can be prevented by maintaining good habits of cleanliness Practices.
