KUK celebrates Tsükhenyie


Kohima, April 14: The Kami Welfare Union Kohima today celebrated Tsükhenyie festival at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama with traditional fanfare and gaiety.
Tsükhenyie is celebrated by Chakhesang Nagas marking the end of a successful harvest year and is hence a time to rejoice and rejuvenate. It preludes welcome to a new year-spring season.
People allow themselves to relax, unite and celebrate. It is a time to revive and rejuvenate oneself before heading to the toiling work and invoke God’s blessing for sowing and prosperous for the whole year.
Extending greetings, Nagaland Minister for Planning & Coordination and Land Revenue, Neiba Kronu said today’s celebration was sort of advance celebration while maintaining that a grand combined celebration would be held at the end part of this month.
He stressed on the need to keep alive the rich culture and traditions of Nagas by celebrating traditional festivals and also follow certain code of taboo as practiced by forefathers. Kronu also emphasized on the need revive the indigenous games.
Significance of Tsukhenyie was briefed by Neilo Khape while KWUK president Kewekolo Khalo chaired the formal function and vote of thanks was tendered by KWUK vice president Kezülhitso Kronu.
The festival was marked by tug of war, Thozhi, Tsobarii, Thopu Tsetse, Danimodarache, air gun shooting competition and wrestling. (Page News Service)
