Dimapur, August 17: The Khonoma Rüffüno, Nagaland (KRN), will organize a sports meet for its members from August 22 to 24 at Keziekie, Khonoma village, as a tribute to mark its 75th anniversary. In all, six units – Khonoma, Kohima, Dzülekie, Zubza, Medziphema and Dimapur units will participate in volleyball (women), football (men) and half-marathon (men, women & senior citizens) as the main events.
The inaugural ceremony on August 22 will be graced by Rovilato Mor (IAS) as the guest of honour where he will launch a traditional Rüffüno Shükute (waistcoat) for men. Kevinourheno Seyie will also launch traditional shirts for both men and women during the event which will be followed by field events.
Arm-wrestling event will be held at Govt. High School, Khonoma on August 23. The half-marathon (21.98 kms) will be conducted on August 24 under the theme ‘Reserve, Conserve & Preserve’, and will be flagged off at 8:30 am by Kovi Meyase, KMC Administrator from Indoor Stadium, Near Red Cross Complex, Kohima, and culminate at Terhotsiese, Khonoma. In the senior citizens category, participants should be 60 years and above while the stipulated distance will be 5 kms.
Prizes for both volleyball and football are Rs15,000 & Rs10,000 for first and second respectively, sponsored by KRN while other event prizes are sponsored by Dimapur Unit. The half-marathon prizes for first, second and third will be Rs 10000, Rs 7000 & Rs 5000 respectively while for senior citizens, it is Rs 5000, Rs 3000 & Rs 2000 respectively.
Although the events are exclusively for people of Khonoma origin, the organizers have invited all well-wishers to witness the events together in celebration. (Page News Service)
