Dimapur, April 18: Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi Tuesday said augmentation of water supply to Kohima town (Zarü project) under urban ministry will be commissioned within 45 days as part of the 100 days action plan of PDA Government.
The Minister said the project is part of the Smart City plan which will provide safe drinking water to the citizens of Kohima town.
Inspecting the project site at Mima village, Zhimomi said the Government is concerned about the health of the people and the project will not only provide safe drinking water to the people but would solve the water scarcity problem in the city. He also informed that in Wokha, the same project will be commissioned within 45 days.
For rural area, he said a project is on the verge of completion at Chiephobozou RD block under Kohima district which will cover 21 water scarce villages. He added that very soon, similar projects will be implemented in other districts.
The Zarü project covers the urban area of Kohima town and falls under the Smart City scheme, funded by the Ministry of Urban Development. Under the PDA Government, with a promise to bring a change within 100 days, it aims to finish the project within 45 days.
The project is a two staged pumping system, whereby the water will reach the pressure break tank and through gravity, the water will flow down to the main reservoir located at Kohima town. The reservoir’s overall pumping for design takes 20 hours and design capacity is 3.8 mld. The process of the pumping goes diversion wise, desilting tank, sedimentation tank, hydraulic jump, clarifloculator, rapid sand filter, disinfection, and pumping. The intake point of the project is Zarü river.
The Minister was accompanied by the officials and staff of PHED for the site inspection.
