Kohima North PS gets ISO certification for quality management

Dimapur, November 19: Kohima North Police Station has become the first Police Station/ Government Office in the State of Nagaland to receive ISO certification, which is an International Standard Organization (ISO) 9001 Certification for Quality Management System.
Kohima North PS established as the first police station under Naga Hills district by the British regime in the year 1933 was awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification on meeting the specified parameters of Quality Management System (QMS) on policing and related scope of activities, which includes maintenance of public peace, law and order, prevention, detection and investigation of crime and criminal activities, emergency response, VIP security and prevention of human trafficking.
The police station is located in the heart of Kohima town and is headed by an Inspector rank officer-in-charge and 88 other ranks.
Superintendent of Police Kohima, Manoj Kumar A, IPS at a press meet in his office chamber on Thursday congratulated SDPO (North), M Yambemo Humtsoe and officer in-charge of North Police Station, Chubaonen for completing the whole process of online application, process, upgradation, documentation and online auditing in a span of 30 days. He stated that Kohima Police had initiated the process of certification by upgrading the existing facilities and adding additional elements with the sole objective to improve the quality of public service and to make the police station more people friendly and accessible.
To meet the specified parameters, the police station has streamlined the process of character/passport verifications and the system of filing and record keeping. Further, the infrastructure of the police station were upgraded and disposal of various complaints have been made time bound, besides other measures. The police station has a reception desk, Para Legal Volunteers help desk, separate interrogation cum investigation room, separate space for visitors, clean drinking water and several other visitor friendly amenities.
Manoj stated that the initiative was started with an objective of providing quality services to the people and to make it quality control in service delivery in future. And with this certification, he assured to provide quality services to the public and to keep a check on quality services that the department would be rendering in future. He informed on the upcoming of manual and guidelines for police personnel and training on maintenance of standard in service delivery.
ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. It is the most popular standard in the ISO 9000 series and the only standard in the series to which organizations can certify. (Page News Service)
