KOHIMA, JULY 1: The road from the State capital to Khuzama village is in a dilapidated condition and if rain continues the lifeline of southern Angami and Manipur is likely to be choked.
According to sources, due to incessant rain the National Highway-29 in this stretch is fast deteriorating making it difficult for trucks ferrying essential commodities to ply.
For quite some time people of the area have been complaining about the condition of the road in this stretch of National Highway but neither the authorities nor the concerned contractor (s) have listened to the people’s plight.
Sources said some culverts and bridges are also on the verge of collapse in this stretch of road.
Last month two MLAs from Southern Angami area and Kohima district administration inspected the road and requested the contractors to get to work and restore the road.
The condition of the 4-lane road from Piphema to Kohima is also on its last legs ~ not to mention timely completion. The Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) has threatened to resort to agitation if the condition of the road does not improve. They had submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner for his timely intervention.
WAPO said the situation would be inevitable unless they see certain sign of progress and sincere effort of the concerned company and sought immediate intervention by the district administration.
