Defending champs Ziekezou rout United 16
Kohima, July 17: Advisor for Rural Development, MLA Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire today inaugurated the 2nd edition of Kohima Football League organized by Kohima Town Club at Kohima Local Ground.
Altogether seven teams are competing for the coveted trophy, which carries cash award of Rs 1 lakh with trophy for the champions and Rs 80,000 for runners-up.
In his inaugural address, Dr Nicky Kire said that Naga footballers tend to practice only during tournaments because of which the players are unable to maintain physical fitness.
Maintaining that such football league is an absolute necessity, he expressed hope that the only league tournament in the state capital would help in improving the physical fitness and the standard of the game.
He encouraged players to be disciplined, dedicated and has the determination to take sports professionally.
Meanwhile, playing the inaugural match, defending champion Ziekezou Sporting Club came from behind to earn the first full points of the tourney. They defeated United 16 Football Club by 4-1.
United 16 FC found an excellent breakthrough against the defenders in the 12th minute as Menoneikho right footer from the edge of D’box found the back of the net despite rival custodian’s effort to block the shot.
However, Ziekezou SC managed to score the much needed equalizer in the 30th minute through Mhasibeituo Yhome to end the first half in 1-1 draw.
However, they returned with added vigour in the breather half and scored the lead in 55th minute through Mhasibeituo Yhome, who also increased the tally with his second goal in 67th minute. Neikethozo Yhome sealed the score board in 84th minute to win the inaugural match by 4-1.
