League toppers face first defeat; Khriekesa FC wins

Kohima, August 6: Toppers of ongoing 2nd edition Kohima Football League, Sechü-Zubza Football Club today faced their first defeat against defending champion’s Ziekezou Football Club while Khriekesa FC registered their second win.
Organised by Kohima Town Club, defending champion’s Ziekezou defeated debutants yet toppers of the tourney, Sechü-Zubza by 3-2.
Having lost the first leg game with Sechü-Zubza on July 31 by 2-4, Ziekezou started with offensive attacks and almost found the lead within the first five minutes but Vilhoubeituo Yhome (15) shot went for a goal-kick barely missing the second post. But their actual goal came in the 22nd minute as Keneinguzei Pienyü (9) managed to tackle the ball from Viketoukho Miasalhou (4) and easily pierce into the nets. Nonetheless, an excellent long ranger by Punürü Nienu (10) from outside the D’box left rival custodian stunned to double the margin within the next minute.
But, Sechü-Zubza’s effort to return to the game bore fruit in 44th minute as Noune Medoze (21) struck the first goal to end the first half with a difference of one goal.
Returning from the lemon break, the league toppers found their much needed equalizer through Kekhrieletuo Tsira in 64th minute but Ziekezou managed to seal the score board through Khrukhoto Resu in the injury added time of the match.
Kevizhapu (4) and Khrukhoto Resu (99), both of Ziekezou SC were penalised for unsporting behavior during the game.
Playing a totally lopsided second match of the day, Khriekesa FC Meriema humiliated United 16 FC by 5-0, which is the highest winning margin so far in this edition.
Initially, neither side was able to make the breakthrough, but Vimelie (14) opened the flood gates in 32nd minute while Mezibui (12) doubled the tally 38th minute to end the first half. In the breather half, Vimelie added two consecutive goals in 53rd and 62nd minute of the game to become the third hat-trick scorer of the tournament. Seyiekhrietuo Suohu (10) sealed the score board with the fifth goal for the team in 67th minute.

President of Nagaland Football Coaches Association an renowned former footballer, Roko Angami was the special invitee for today’s matches.
