Kohima, Aug 15: Gideon Leo scored his second hat-trick of the tournament as New Market Football Club humiliated league toppers Sechü-Zubza Football Club in today’s match of Kohima Football League-2 organised by Kohima Town Club at Local Ground here.
New Market FC strengthened their position to move to third position defeating Sechü-Zubza by 5 goals to 2.
New Market made an extra ordinary start by scoring an early lead with 3 minute of play through Gideon Leo (99) as rival defenders failed because of wrong offside call. The 10th minute could have given Sechü-Zubza the equalizer as Petevizo Kezieo (7) making a counter attack crossed a long pass for Aloumei Panmei (10), whose headed was brilliantly denied by New Market custodian Sedevituo Seretsu (1).
Nonetheless, Keduvikho Mekro (4) handball inside the danger zone in the 14th minute cost New Market heavy as referee awarded penalty in favour of Sechü-Zubza, which was neatly converted by Kekehrieletuo Tsira (11). Two minutes later, Sechü-Zubza would have scored the lead but Kezieo’s cross was wasted by skipper Shürhosül Zhotso striking the ball off target while his feeble shot from the six yard zone was saved by New Market custodian in 18th minute.
In the 20th minute, Leo got a chance to score the lead but his shot went over the crossbar but he recovered the loss in 29th minute with his second goal. Salu Kulim (14) stunned rival custodian Rajusituo Nagi (1) with a long range third goal in 34th minute. While Sechü-Zubza were struggling with absence of play maker Khiuwangbo Kaurintah (8), who was denied the first 11 due to fitness issue, New Market striker Leo almost wasted a sure goal opportunity in 42nd minute hitting the ball for a goal-kick even as he came face to face with custodian Naga to end the first half in 3-1.
Three minutes after the lemon break, a frustrated Sechü-Zubza defender Menuosieto Sano (20) scored an own goal while trying to intercept a cross ball from New Market skipper Rhitsho Mero (10). The 53rd minute witnessed another weak shot from skipper Zhotso being easily collected by custodian Sedevituo.
In the 66th minute, Leo struck a long ranger over lapping custodian Nagi scoring the fifth goal for New Market. This was his second straight hat-trick while fifth of the tournament.
Before the final whistle, Sechü-Zubza scored another consolation in 68th minute as Zhotso pushed the ball into the nets while custodian Seretsu fumbled inside the six yard zone. In a disappointing moment, in 73rd minute a direct free-kick from Khiuwangbo, who came into the field with about 25 minutes left for play, rebounded from the cross bar and finally they had to accept a thrashing defeat.
Nonetheless, despite the loss, Sechü-Zubza is still the league toppers with 20 points and has the credentials of 13 goals while Ziekezou SC, also with 20 points are behind because of goal deficit. New Market FC is in third position with 18 points.
