Kohima-Dimapur road opens for traffic

Kohima, July 19: The National Highway-29 connecting Dimapur and Kohima districts of Nagaland and also the lifeline of Manipur State has be partially restored and opened for all kinds of traffic.
PRO Kohima Police and Additional SP Talisunep Imchen said that the National Highway-29 was cut from July 8 last due to massive landslide caused by incessant rain below Avilie Petrol Pump.
Immediate fresh cutting was taken up from July 9 under the supervision of Public Works Department and Kohima District administration. The work was completed and trial run for loaded commercial vehicles was carried on Thursday.
NH-29 is not only the lifeline of several districts of Nagaland but also is a necessity for neighbouring Manipur state.
Since July 8, Kohima Traffic police had diverted the vehicles from Jotsoma for down vehicles while up vehicles were routed through Peducha-Tsiesema-Kohima. However, heavy public carriers were stranded due to steep terrain on both the routes.
“The NH-29 linking has been partially restored and opened for traffic with immediate effect,” the PRO said, adding that the traffic would be regulated for smooth passage on both side. He requested travellers to bear with the inconvenience.
