Kohima, August 23: A Lower Court in Kohima has sentenced the rapist of a teenager to 16 years rigorous imprisonment and two murderers to life imprisonment.
Briefing media persons on the judgement passed on August 16 last in connection with rape of a 12-year-old girl in Kitsubozou colony here in 2015, Special Public Prosecutor, Kathu Rengma said that the Special Judge of Principal District and Session Court, Kohima, Khesheli Chishi has order a sentence of 18 years to 53-year-old accused Khwushopra.
The accused arrested by police under Investigating Officer, UBSI Levinuo Nyuwi on charges of raping the teenager in December 2015 following an FIR lodged by the victim’s parents only in August 2016, he said.
The Court found the accused guilty after examining 10 witnesses during the course of trial, he said, adding that the term of sentence includes 14 years imprisonment under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and additional 2 years for criminal intimidation of the victim under Section 506 IPC.

Meanwhile, in another judgement passed in February last, Rengma said that the Principal District and Session Court, Kohima, Judge Y Maongkaba Imchen has ordered life imprisonment of two persons found guilty of murdering a youth.
Kruse Terhuja of Khonoma village, Vilalhoulie Rupreo of Nachama village and Kezhaletuo Pielie were arrested on charges of the gruesome murder of Meciebo Lcho of Viswema village, Kohima district on March 29 midnight.
A case was registered following an FIR lodged by Meriema Village Council about recovery of the dead body within the village jurisdiction on March 30, 2015 while police team led by Investigation Officer UBSI Lichanthung Lotha arrested the accused persons in July, he said.
The Public Prosecutor informed that after examination of 13 witnesses during the trial period, the Court found Terhuja and Rupreo guilty of physically torturing the victim to semi-conscious state at Jail Colony and than strangulating and throwing his body near Meriema village, which is about 12 kms away from the first incident site.
On the other hand, Pielie was not found guilty of murder, but was penalized for rigorous imprisonment for the period he already served in jail starting July 1, 2015 to February 2, 2018.
The judgement was passed in February 2 last, the Public Prosecutor said. (Page News Service)
