
Dimapur, April 19: Kiphire district administration has urged vigilance among the public following the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in the district.
In a notification, the Chief Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Officer of the district informed that the disease is highly contagious with 100% mortality, with no treatment for the disease.
Therefore, in order to prevent further spread of the disease and to control the outbreak, the district administration has ordered the following points:
1.Any death of pigs in any village or town must be reported to the nearest veterinary health centre without fail.
2.Transportation of pigs /wild boar/pork within the district, in any town or village is strictly prohibited until further order.
3.Butching of pig/wild boar/Pork for consumption or sale is prohibited until further orders.
Further, non-adherence to the order by any individual, group or business will be punishable under the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897 with immediate effect, it warned.
