Dimapur, September 20: Rashtriya Poshan Maah jointly organized by KVK Kiphire Department of Social Welfare & Department of Horticulture on September 17 at Kiphire District.
During the programme, CDPO, Z Tsangkhuchu Sangtam gave a brief introductory note on Rashtriya Poshan Maah where he highlighted about its importance mainly for the women folk, dropout girl child and children between the ages of 0-6 years. He spoke on the moderate acute malnutrition and severe acute malnutrition in children and how it has been affecting young children in particular and how Government of India has given importance to tackle these problems. He also mentioned of the provision of Rs.5000 given by Government of India for all the first time pregnant mothers and in this connection he encouraged the women folk present to avail this scheme and use the amount for the various medication and vaccinations needed during the period.
SDO (C) Kiphire, James T. Khulu Tikhir who was the chief guest apprised the farmers by encouraging them to go for kitchen garden to organic crops and the importance of having one in our own backyard. He also encouraged the organising team to have such collaborative programs even in the near future for uplifting the farming community.
A technical session was also held comprising of three topics.
Vegetable seeds like coriander, long bean, onion, broccoli, carrot, knol khol, beans and tomato along with hand outs on nutrient content in important vegetable crops were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 53 people attended the programme comprising of anganwadi workers and women farmers. (Page News Service)
