Kohima, April 13: Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, MLA R. Khing today emphasized on the need to adopt a holistic approach to increase livestock production to improve the economy of the State.
Addressing the officers of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department during his maiden interactive meeting after assuming office in the conference hall of the directorate here, Khing said “it is the duty of the officers to put sincere effort to bring a change in accelerating livestock farming to improve the state’s economy”.
Maintaining that the present PDA government is aiming towards bringing change – economical and social as well as all round development in the state, Khing expressed optimism that Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services department can bring the required economic change for the state.
Expressing concern over the import of animal husbandry products worth more than Rs. 200 crore annually, Khing encouraged Naga youths to take up livestock and poultry farming as it would go a long way in generating employment and also boost the economy of the state.
He stressed on the need to strengthen veterinary hospitals throughout the state and also the need to improve demonstration farms, while also assuring to give special focus on dairy development in the state.
Stating that the PDA government headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has decided to assess the performance of every department after every 100 days, Khing called upon the officers and staff to be committed and ensure that the department is rated as the best performing department. In this he called upon the officers and staff to be present in their respective places of posting and discharge their duties diligently.
Lamenting the meagre budget allocation for the department, the Advisor asserted to try his best to increase the allocation and also to approach different departments to help towards improving the various projects and schemes under the department.
