Kezhavizo Thevo is 1st Chakhesang Open Wrestling champ

Pfutsero, February 8: Kezhavizo Thevo from Chedema village today emerged champion of the 1st Chakhesang Open Wrestling organised by Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) at Pfutsero Sports Complex, Pfutsero under Phek District.
Standing 5.10 feet tall and weighing 98kg, the Angami wrestler defeated Mudotü Veswüh from Süthozu Nasa under Phek district in the final bout.
Venuzo Vadeo and Putuzo Keyho bagged the fourth and fourth positions respectively.
Champion Thevo received cash prize of Rs. 1,20,000 along with citation while first runners-up Veswüh bagged Rs. 80,000; third Vadeo Rs 40,000 and fourth Keyho Rs 20,000.
A total 63 wrestlers including two from Angami Sports Association participated in the first open wrestling meet.
Interestingly, former NWA Open wrestling champion and reigning Chakhesang wrestling champion Venuzo Dawhuo and former NWA Open wrestling champion Pfusato Tetseo both lost against the champion in the pre-quarter final and quarter final matches respectively.
Earlier, former Nagaland Wrestling Association president Neikhrolo Khalo in his inaugural address appreciated the CWA for organising the first wrestling meet to encouraged the wrestlers and hoped they will excel further.
He said if the government is able to give financial support, the sportsperson are ready to achieve our goals in their respective discipline. Lauding the present PDA government for being serious about promoting sports, he said revised sports policy is about to be completed in the line with reservation of quota for sports.
Stating that Naga style wrestling will be inducted as a state sports, he said the government has already written a letter to the Nagaland Wrestling Association and has approved it.
