Kenye concerned over safety of commuters on Dimapur-Kohima road

Dimapur, July 24: Seeing the plight of commuters and having concern for the road safety on the ongoing four-lane road construction between Dimapur and Kohima, Rajya Sabha MP, K G Kenye urged the Union Minister for Transport to instruct the departments and the contractors to take necessary traffic relation construction site procedures and precaution so that commuters are not put at risk of accidents.
In an open letter to the Union Minister, the Rajya Sabha MP stated that the earth work and rock cutting for the widening of the road is underway, however, with the onset of Monsoon, the road is muddy and slippery.
He said many people including him have appreciated the upgradation works being undertaking but the disappointing situation with regard to road safety has let everyone down.
He stated that the highway construction work-zone and traffic control codes as per procedures laid down by MORTH is nowhere to be seen, adding many sections of the road are dug up with no warning indicators.
He further stated that some portions do not even have the traffic diversion barricades that can be visible to vehicles in rain or at night, which has made the ever present risk for vehicle drivers even more hazardous.
Kenye also hoped that the Union Minister would take up the matter on priority for public safety. (Page News Service)
