KDCC slates formation of NUG

Nagaland News

Dimapur, September 8: The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) has censured the decision of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) to have an Opposition-less Government, taking on board the opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF), with the nomenclature of Nagaland United Government (NUG) “on the pretext of Naga political solution”.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the KDCC stated that an Opposition-less Government in Nagaland is the brainchild of NPF as it had managed to lure 8 Congress MLAs in 2015 into the then DAN Government on the same excuse of strengthening the efforts to find solution to the Naga political problem.
“The political upheaval of the last Opposition-less DAN Government is still fresh as the functioning of the Government was based either in Kaziranga or Sovima completely putting the State and its denizens in hysteria.
“It’s worth mentioning that the Government of India as well as the Interlocutor and Governor of Nagaland RN Ravi has time and again been reiterating that integration of Naga-inhabited areas is not possible, while also disagreeing to grant separate Naga flag and constitution,” read the press release.
It also noted with surprise the formation of Parliamentary Committee on Naga political issue.
“Is the coming together of the Legislators under the banner of the Parliamentary Committee on NPI not enough for them to strengthen the Naga issue and also persuade the National leadership to grant a solution that the opposition NPF legislators have to join the ruling dispensation superseding all the norms of a democratic setup?
“A honourable and acceptable political solution is very dear to every Naga and therefore as manifested in the election manifestos of the political parties, the Legislators from ruling and Opposition have come together in the past to work together to facilitate the Naga political and they can still continue to do so. Cannot the Opposition bench members maintain the decorum to be in their own jurisdiction to voice the concern of the public and keep the Government on its toes for the general welfare while also working cohesively with the treasury bench to facilitate the Naga political issue?” it questioned.

According to the KDCC, the “present game of having NUG” is another attempt of both the ruling and opposition parties in the State to fulfil their own political whims and fancies at the cost of the general public.
“If not, KDCC demands the political parties to make their stand clear on Naga integration without which a solution to the vexed struggle will be farce. They should also make their proposals public on the approach towards facilitating the Naga solution under NUG,” it stated.
