
Kohima, October 28: Altogether 21 players are competing in the second edition of Kohima District Chess Championship organized by Kohima District Chess Association (KDCA) at CANSSEA Building, Bayavü.
Founder and first president of KDCA, Visanyüzo Kuotsu graced the inaugural function of the 3-day championship this morning. Kuotsu, who represented the State at national and international chess championships from 2005-2013 encouraged the players to respect the sport.
Delivering the welcome address, KDCA president Kedihoto Puro said the association envisions encouraging interested sportspersons by providing a platform.
The champion of the general category will receive cash Rs 15,000, 2nd – Rs. 10,000, 3rd – Rs. 7,000, 4th – Rs. 5,000 and 5th to 10th position holders will get Rs 2,000 each. In the Under 14 years category, the winner will get Rs. 6,000, 2nd – Rs. 4,000, 3rd – Rs. 3,000 and 4th – Rs. 2,000.
8-year old Neipedezo Metha is the youngest player of the tournament. (Page News Service)
