Kangleipak Pari

KOHIMA, JUNE 4: Kangleipak Pari (Manipur) emerged the victor over Kohima Town Club(KTC) in the football exhibition match that was played at IG stadium on Saturday.
The score line of the much awaited match between the ISL players from Manipur and KTC with players handpicked from the recently concluded Kohima Super Club was 3-2 at the blow of the final whistle.
Spectators of the match were in for a surprise as Kohima drew first blood at the match on Saturday with a goal from KTC’s Nyithong Magh on the 15th minute.
However, KTC-‘s lead on the score line was short-lived as Kangleipak’s own captain Samboi(East Bengal FC) equalized the score line at the 40th minute.
Before the blow of the final whistle, Kangleipak Pari further extended the lead to 2-1 with a goal from Bipin (Mumbai FC).
As the match resumed for the second half, KTC-XI equalised the score line. However, the tentative hope of the KTC emerging victorious over the Kangleipak Pari was dashed to the ground with a goal from Boris (Jhamshedpur).
The KTC-XI had some decent opportunities in the final minutes but came up short on getting the ball past Kangleipak Pari’s keeper.
Even though the match on Saturday was tagged as an exhibition match, the match between the Kangleipak Pari and the KTC-XI was a litmus test for the home team as it was the first exposure with ISL for most of the KTC players.
Queried about his thought on the performance of the KTC-XI, President KTC, Viketoulie Pienyu said that even though KTC lost the match, the match turned out better than expected.
He said that the KTC players were able to keep up with the pace of the ISL-pedigree players in tackling as well as making a run at the offense. However, there was poor coordination between the midfield and the striker which eventually contributed to the downfall of the KTC in the match.
Along with the objective to give a higher level of playing field to the local players, the exhibition match played on Saturday between the Kangleipak Pari (Manipur) and KTC-XI was organised by the Kohima Town Club and the Kohima Forest Division as a prelude to the World Environment Day that falls on June 5.
