Dimapur, July 22: The Government of Nagaland has clarified that the decision of the State Government to issue an Office Memorandum on July 7 asking all Government employees to furnish information regarding their family members and relatives in Naga political organizations was made on the direction of the Governor of Nagaland, which was also deliberated by the State Cabinet in its meeting held on July 3.
The Government issued the clarification in view of the public as well as Naga groups response on the matter.
In a clarification, the Government said on February 14, 2020, the office of the Governor, through the Commissioner & Secretary to Governor, had written to the Chief Secretary on the Governor’s desire to have a database of State Government employees’ family members and relatives in underground organizations.
“The letter required every Government employee to make a self declaration in a format which was enclosed along with the letters. The letter desired members of the Police Department to be segregated and furnished separately. The letter further directed the Home Commissioner to keep hard copies of the declaration and a soft copy to be sent to the Governor’s Office by 2nd April, 2020,” it clarified.
The Government said a reminder letter was also received by the Chief Secretary’s office from the Governor’s Office on June 24. (Page News Service)
