As the DC movie Joker tops 950 million dollars worldwide today, it has also reportedly become the most profitable comic-book movie ever made. This claim was made by a report in Forbes. The report further states that Joaquin Phoenix starrer was made on a budget of 62.5 million dollars.
The Todd Phillips directorial is also expected to enter the billion dollar club before it exits the theatres, judging by its current performance. It will be the first R-Rated movie to do so. Ever since it was released, the film has defied expectations and has gone from strength to strength. All the controversies that preceded its release seem to have worked in its favour.
Joker tells the origin story of the popular Batman supervillain of the same name. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron play supporting roles in the film. Phillips penned the script with Scott Silver.
Joker has scored a rating of 69 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus reads, “Joker gives its infamous central character a chillingly plausible origin story that serves as a brilliant showcase for its star — and a dark evolution for comics-inspired cinema.”
