John Travolta’s life of tragedy as wife Kelly Preston dies 11 years after son Jett

On July 12, John Travolta ‘s wife Kelly Preston sadly passed away following a secret two-year battle with breast cancer.
The former actress and doting mum was just 57 years-old.
Taking to social media, her husband of almost 29 years made a heartbreaking statement where he confirmed the news.
In his message, he added: “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while.
The iconic actor has since been inundated with touching messages as the showbiz world reeled following news of her death.
Kelly’s death hasn’t been the only heartbreak to face the Grease star throughout the years, nor has it been the first diagnosis of cancer close to the actor.
Back in the 1970s, and long before John had met Kelly, the Pulp Fiction star was in a relationship with actress Diana Hyland after meeting her on the set of The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.
The star, who was 18 years his senior, was tragically diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 41.
Despite the heartbreaking news, the couple remained together until the actress’ death on March 27, 1977.
Fast forward nearly two decades and John had gone on to meet Kelly, who became his wife in 1991.
The couple enjoyed a whirlwind romance and had welcomed children Jett and Ella Bleu when in 2009 they were struck by the biggest heartbreak that a parent could face.
John and Kelly’s eldest son Jett, 16, had suffered from seizures and had autism throughout his life when the family decided to take a Christmas holiday to the Bahamas.
On January 2, 2009, Jett suffered a stroke and despite resuscitation efforts from his parents and paramedics, the incident proved fatal.
Although the family was flooded with heartfelt tributes following Jett’s death, behind the scenes their grief was marred by suspicion and even a blackmail plot against Travolta worth millions.
However, John decided to drop the court case against a paramedic and his lawyer – who had reportedly demanded millions from the star in exchange for the return of an indemnity form Travolta had signed – in an attempt to move on.
Travolta said at the time: “After much reflection I concluded that it was in my family’s best interest for me not to voluntarily return to the Bahamas to testify a second time at trial.”
After putting the case firmly behind them, the family were in for a surprise when just a little over a year later, Kelly discovered she was pregnant at the age of 47.
Their third child, Benjamin, was born in 2010.
Kelly’s recent breast cancer battle had been kept completely out of the public eye as she fought for her life surrounded by her closest family.
Since his wife’s tragic passing, John appears to have stepped away from social media as he looked after his two children.
On his social media, he added: “Please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
