Nagaland News

Says apply same yardsticks to both parties
Dimapur, April 16: The Janata Dal United Nagaland today said that the SIT constituted for settling the Lamhainamdi village issue must expedite its pace for speedy administration of justice, while also keeping in mind that the same yardsticks should be applied to both the contending parties in all matters of defaults.

In a statement issued by its publicity wing, the JDU said for Nagas, land is intrinsic, therefore, the history of the land must be taken into consideration during the course of settlement in case of disputes.
“It is obvious that there will be claims and counter claims but the real crux of the problem could be found only if oral traditions and physical evidence is calibrated,” it stated.
While not holding the Government responsible for their inability to resolve the land and its boundary dispute in a time-bound manner, the JDU said speedy justice to the citizens against any criminal activities as a result of disputes etc is the bounden duty of the Government of the day.
The JDU further condemned the acts of violence committed by bandh organizers resulting in razing of Government properties. It said destruction of properties, be it public or individual, during agitation only encourage antisocial elements to breed.
Stating that vandalism during bandh is an alien culture, the JDU said it should not be allowed to take roots in the Naga society and that culprits should not be allowed to go scot free. (Page News Service)
