Dimapur, February 22: Union Minister of Textile, Smriti Zubin Irani today inaugurated Post Cocoon Technology project and also launched other projects under North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) at Sabangya, Chungtia, Mokokchung. Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju was also present.
Addressing the gathering, Irani said the government is trying to promote silk production in large scale throughout the Northeast states looking at the rich potential of Muga Silk Production in the region.
She said that NE states contribute bulk of the Muga Silk production in the country.
She also expressed optimism that implementation of such project would not only uplift the economic condition of the people but help women empowerment through employment opportunities.
Minister of Home Affair, Government of India, Kiren Rijiju, who also spoke on the occasion, said textile is not a new thing for the Nagas as they are closely associated with it through their rich ethnic designs and patterns.
He went on to say that NERTPS will not only benefit the community in economic terms but will promote women empowerment by expanding their potentials.
Earlier in the programme, the Union ministers did the honour of inaugurating the Muga P3 Basic Seed Production Centre, Kubolong by unveiling an inaugural stone and releasing of brochure, Launching of Sericulture development Project of Kiphire, an Aspirational District of Nagaland by releasing a Brochure of the project and unveiling an inaugural stone, launching of Bivoltine Sericulture development Project through Women Empowerment for whole District by releasing a Brochure of the project.
