Dimapur, November 18: The Joint Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has called upon the Government of Nagaland to introduce Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) Act in the State without further delay.
“…the JCPI once again urges upon the State Government under your able leadership to introduce RIIN Act without further delay,” said the JCPI in a representation to Nagaland Chief Minister.
In the representation, JCPI co-convener Atomi Swu and secretary Tia Longchar also reiterated its stand on the cutoff year as 1st December,1963 for enrollment of indigenous inhabitant of Nagaland on the basis of Nagas by birth. It insisted that the 21/11/1979 date, which constituted Dimapur as Tribal Belt vide Land Revenue Department Notification No LR/2-118/76, will not be accepted as the cutoff year.
Stating that the RIIN Commission headed by Mrs. Banuo Z Jamir has completed its studies and the final report submitted to the Government, the JCPI said, “Sir, you are well aware of the mess and complication we have in Nagaland today arising out of improper possession of Indigenous Inhabitants Certificate and the only remedy to all these functional hustles is to enforce RIIN in letter and in spirit at the earliest.”
“As RIIN has to be enacted as law, the primary initiative is for the Cabinet’s approval of the Report and place it before the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for making it into an Act of the Government,” it added. (Page News Service)
