Int’l Day for elimination of violence against women held

Dimapur, November 27: District level Centre for Women: Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) and Tuensang District Administration observed International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on the Theme “Orange the World’ at Council Hall, Kuthur Village on November 25 under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.


The main aim of the event was to convey detailed information regarding women rights and to practice justice in the society. Songmao M, Women Welfare Officer DLCW, Tuensang highlighted the core concept of BBBP program.
She also stressed on violence against women in present scenario of our society like domestic violence, sexual harassment and sexual abuse, physical and mental abuse etc.
The universal women helpline number 181 plays a vital role in all districts in the state of Nagaland, so as to make use in terms of any violence against women, she added.
While, S. Niamkoi district Coordinator (MSK) Tuensang spoke on the pandemic COVID-19 safety measure to be taken as part of awareness, she had highlighted Dos’ and Don’ts to be put into action to compact and fights together against the pandemic.
The team also dispersed sanitary pads and face mask to all the attendees in the program. 30 widows and 40 adolescent girls attended the program.
Phek: International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women 2020 was observed by the District Administration & DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Phek, under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiated International Day for Elimination of violence Against Women programme at Phek HQ on November 25. On account of 16 days activism on gender based violence the next activity will be conducted at Meluri Sub- division under Phek district for Sensitisation Program in 5 villages including Shilloi Lake.
Sachin Jaiswal, IAS Deputy Commissioner Phek, in his keynote address emphasized on why we must eliminate violence against women and mentioned the different gender-based violence such as:- physical, emotional and economic violence. DC also appraised that there is a separate cell for the Northeast region Women under IG at Raj Bhavan. He urged everyone to send the messages of “stop violence against women” which will bring impact to our society and work together hand in hand
Speaking on the theme: “Orange the world: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect”, Vesupra Kezo, (NPS) SP Phek, highlighted the cases which have been registered under crime against women. Kezo also added that there is a separate Women cell set up in every districts, which is the Government policy to let the women in the front to tackle any issues of Women and as a responsible citizen and parents we should all take the responsible of teaching our children on what is gender-based violence.
The programme was followed by walkathon which was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner Phek. Various Civil societies and students from different schools attended the event. The programme ended with the launching of LED by Deputy Commissioner Phekat prominent public place Phek HQ.
