International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed at Dimapur

Dimapur, December 2: A programme to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held on Saturday at District Hospital, Dimapur.
The event was an initiative of the Dimapur District Level Committee for Persons with Disabilities, who collaborated with Exodus Disabled People’s Organisation, Dimapur, and Prodigals’ Home.
K Ela, the Director of Prodigals’ Home, reflected how sensitivity and awareness towards Persons with Disabilities have sharpened over the years-though much is still left desiring.
She reminded that despite the hurdles crossed, many more challenges remain to overcome collectively.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, addressing as the guest speaker, stressed on raising awareness, especially among the rural populace. He also shared a personal anecdote, involving his sister, a PwD.
The DC reminded that PwDs were no less different.
Dr. Limatula Aier, the Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur, delivered the keynote address. A sign language teacher interpreted the proceedings to those with hearing impairment.
