Inter-Ministerial Central team holds coordination meet at Wokha


Dimapur, April 5: Inter Ministerial Central team from Delhi led by Joint Secretary (Judicial) Ministry of Home Affairs, V B Dubey along with three other Officers held a co-ordination meeting with Wokha District Disaster Management Authority (WDDMA) at DC conference hall, Wokha today. The Inter Ministerial Central Team visited the district for assessment of damage caused due to floods/landslides during the year 2017.
During the meeting, DC and Chairman WDDMA, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS highlighted disaster scenario, vulnerability and hazard analysis of Wokha district.
The DC also highlighted that the district is not only compounded to natural calamities but the district is also facing human and animal conflict which needs to give special attention as the rural people depend on agricultural and its allied production as their mainstay. Disaster Management Officer Wokha, Mercy also presented damage assessment and utilization of funds report.
Briefing about Human Elephant conflict in the District, DFO Wokha, Zuthunglo Patton said Wokha district holds more then 2/3rd of Nagaland’s Elephant population which is the second highest density per Sq. Km after Karnataka, Patton also highlighted some mitigation measures and challenges which lies ahead with the WDDMA, and suggested role-following points such as Convergence, Relief/compensation for crop damage, Property damage, Injury or loss of life, Awareness (village to village, door to door) in High Conflict areas and Various low cost techniques for early warning as well as during crop raiding/elephant presence in village.
