Inter-Dept Badminton tourney at Pughoboto underway


Dimapur, August 13: The 6th Inter-Departmental Badminton tournament, Pughoboto got underway today. It was declared open by SDEO Pughoboto, V Yashito Swu in the presence of ADC, Phuleshe K. Yepthomi administrators, officers and others at the badminton stadium Pughoboto.
Yashito in his short speech highlighted the vital role of sports in our lives for physical, mental, and social health and how beneficial it can be.
He said that sports, whether indoor or outdoor, keep us healthy, wealthy and active. Basically, we can have healthy mind only when we have a healthy body. Adding that it contributes to muscle development, coordination, cardiovascular health and numerous other benefits, he cited examples of Indian top players Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Srikanath Kidambani and so on.
Swu also urged the players that like any other sports, Badminton too requires a lot of dedication, practice and perseverance.
The diabetes prevention program has found out that playing Badminton decreases the incidence of developing diabetes by 58% even better than medication, he said and wished all the players to play well and give their best. All together 19 teams are participating in the tournament.
The program was chaired by Dr. Alvis Chikhe, MO. Invocation prayer was pronounced by Pastor, Pasang Sharps and Khatoshe Chishi presented a special song. The oath taking was administered by PT GHS Pughoboto, Hokiqhe Sheqi.
