Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, MARCH 29: Dimapur Police has ordered all medicine shops/pharmacies, operating under the jurisdiction of Dimapur Police Commissionerate and selling scheduled X or H drugs as per Rule 65 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940, to install CCTV cameras inside and outside their shops within one month.
The order, directed to medicine shops/pharmacies of Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland Districts, was issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie.
“Time period of one month with immediate effect is being given to all the medical/pharmacy shops owners for installation of CCTV cameras.
Footage of CCTV camera can be randomly checked by the District Drug Controller Authority/Child Welfare Police Officer anytime. In case any medical/pharmacy shop owner failing to comply with the order, appropriate action shall be taken against such person/owner”, the order stated.
On March 28, the Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NMDA) had announced indefinite closure of medicine shops in the State to protest the arrest of its member on March 27 under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The Association claims that the arrest was in violation of the procedure prescribed by law. As per reports, police had arrested two medicine dealers on March 27 acting on a warrant of arrest issued by Zunheboto Police.
