Innocents Imprisoned: Documentary on Kandhamal violence released

Dimapur, April 2: Senior Journalist Anton Akkara today released a documentary about Kandhamal fraud, “Innocents imprisoned” that allegedly exposes the massive Hindu nationalist fraud behind the orchestrated attacks on Christians in Kandhamal jungles of Odisha in 2008.
Interacting with media persons at Press Point here, Akkara remarked, “This documentary is a unique social media campaign to prick the conscience of the nation to the travesty of justice in Kandhamal. It is a blot on Indian democracy.”
Christian community was brutalized for the political agenda of the Hindu nationalists and 7 innocent Christians who had nothing to do with the killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati are in jail, fumed the journalist who travelled to Nagaland to spread the message that the Kandhamal incident was a travesty of justice with chilling videos, graphics and documents.
As per Anton, the Swami was killed on Janmasthami night and it was meticulously planned and executed. They had even rehearsed the killing of Swami, he alleged adding the local RSS man who coordinated the killing of Swamiji was also killed to leave no trace of the killers.
The killing was promptly dubbed as Christian conspiracy by the Sangh Parivar and “illiterate Hindus” were incited to take revenge on Christians by taking his body around across the jungle tracts for two days setting Kandhamal aflame, he alleged.
Akkara claimed that Christians were given ultimatum to forsake their faith and those who refused were killed. In unabated violence that gripped Kandhamal for nearly four months; it is estimated that nearly 100 Christians were killed, 300 churches and 6000 Christian houses plundered and torched rendering 56,000 homeless.
Anton Akkara claimed that the conspiracy was rooted in Swami Laxmanananda’s boastful claims that Europe, US, the Pope and Sonia Gandhi wanted to eliminate him. Armed with this Swami’s claim as evidence the top Sangh Parivar leaderships hatched the “Kandhamal Conspiracy”.
‘Innocent Imprisoned’ is the visual presentation of the Kandhamal fraud and travesty of justice exposed in Akkara’s nationally acclaimed book “Who Killed Swami Laxmanananda?’.
Within hours of Swami’s Murder, Akkara said, 4 Christians including a 13-year old illiterate boy were picked up by the saffron henchmen, thrashed and dumped in police stations.
“The police didn’t arrest the four rather it was done by the saffron henchmen. They acted as the police as well as the judge”, he alleged.
The verdict that convicted the 7 accused Christians to life imprisonment was delivered abruptly by a newly appointed third judge in October 2013. Their bail plea has been bluntly rejected by the Odisha High Court while the appeal has been dragging on in the same court for five years, he said.
Anton initiated an online signature campaign www.release7innocents.com that generates four instant emails to the Chief Justice of India, President of India, National Human Rights Commission and Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court.
“This is the only way left to release them from jail. We are a democratic country and the Kandhamal episode is a complete democratic failure. Let people speak now. Christians in Odisha are preferring to die than to go for the energised ‘Ghar Wapasi’ campaign of the Sangh Parivar. It’s a human rights issue and everyone should participate in the online signature campaign. It’s a campaign for truth and justice,” Anton added. (Page News Service)
