Inception workshop on SSAP under NWM held

Dimapur, October 12: Inception workshop on State specific action plan (SSAP) under national water mission for Nagaland was held in the Secretariat conference hall, Kohima on Friday.
Chief Secretary, Binchilo Thong, IAS in his welcome address informed that the objective of the workshop is to prepare an action plan on development and management of water resources in the State. He said that the ministry of water resources has launched the National Water Mission and its main objective is conservation, minimizing wastage and ensuring more equitable distribution both across and within the State through integrated water resources development and management.
In the brief introduction on SSAP, SE (WRD) and Nodal Officer (SSAP), Er. Razouvolie Kelio said due to global climate change, the mission form the core of the National Action Plan for climate change (NAPCC), for which the state specific action plan for water sector is to be prepared in the next 30 years. The specific action plan will essentially consist of preparation of status report on present situation of water resources development and management, water governance, institutional arrangement, water related policies, cross boundary issues and agreements etc. of the State and Union Territory, identifying a set of probable solutions to address the key issues and problem areas giving pros and cons of the solution, preparation of detailed action plan for each of the strategy and activity identified in the NWM to be implemented by the State and Union Territory, etc.
Dr J Sesha Sirnivas, senior scientist EPTRI mentioned that the present situation of water resources development and management, water governance, institutional arrangements, water related policies, cross-boundary issues, agreements etc. should be the main focus and preparation of the detailed action plan for each of the strategies/activities identified in the NWM to be implemented by the State/Union Territory.
