I-League Qualifiers: Laiwang scores in Delhi win

Dimapur, October 9: Naga footballer Laiwang Bohham was among the goals as his team, Delhi FC, routed Corbett FC 5-1 on Saturday in a Group B encounter in the Hero I-League Qualifiers 2021.


Playing in pouring rain at Bangalore Football Stadium, the 21-year-old Laiwang, who came in as a substitute in the 72nd minute, struck in the 90th minute of the game-he volleyed home a rebound after Corbett goalkeeper Asfar failed to clear a cross.
A product of State Football Academy, Dimapur, Laiwang hails from Zangkham village in Mon district.
Previously, he had played for Velsao Sports and Cultural Club, Goa; Gauhati Town Club, Assam; Kalighat Milan Sangha FC Kolkata; and RBI Chennai.
The other goal scorers for Delhi were Anwar Ali (75, 90+5), Samuel Shadap (89) and Willis Deon Plaza (45+2).
The solitary goal for Corbett was collected by John Chidi Uzodinma, in the 13th minute.
Delhi FC goalkeeper, James Kithan, was the other Naga player involved in the game.
After Saturday’s win, Delhi FC sit at the top of Group B, with one foot already in the final round of the Hero I-League Qualifiers 2021.
The defeat ended Corbett FC’s hopes of qualifying for the Hero I-League this season, with one game still to go.
